ANNIESLAND TRAIN STATION
We have been given the opportunity to redesign and reinvigorate an existing aging commuter station in Glasgows district; Anniesland Train Station. The existing station was built in 1969 using a prefabricated clasp system and is now dated and not serving the commuters as best as it could.
Our client, Abellio Scot Rail wants to incorporate a community facility within the station that will bring the community in Anniesland together and be used all day, especially in off-peak hours. The objectives being to create a safe space that bridges the gap in the community whilst exceeding commuter expectations and tackling social exclusion.
Through research, we found that the elderly population in Anniesland was not being targeted by existing community groups. Additionally one of the primary commuters in Anniesland are students, therefore an intergenerational community facility was proposed. This proposal is in the form of a bookshop cafe, that is able to be used as a mixed-use space that runs workshops, meetings, and events. With bespoke movable tables and bookshelves, the space can be transformed at ease. The proposal consists of the whole site being redesigned, including the main station, platform 2, and bridge, to meet and exceed the needs of the users, that will serve future generations to come.
